SIP Trunk

A SIP Trunk  is essentially a virtual phone line which connects your physical phone system to the internet as a VOIP (voice over IP) service.

Historically, most medium and large businesses used a physical phone switch to manage internal calls. These systems then plugged into ISDN or multi-line PSTN phone services. As we now transition to digital-only voice services in the UK, all phone systems will need to either migrate to 'cloud' based hosted solutions, or they will need to work with SIP trunks to replace the ISDN/PSTN phone services.

Whilst most businesses could tranisition to our Scotnet Centrex solution, some locations may want or need to keep a local phone switch. These are typically businesses with multiple internal phones but a small number of outgoing lines, such as hotels.

SIP trunks are cheaper than conventional lines and offer more functionality. Our SIP trunk packages also include free calls to UK mobiles and UK geographical landlines.
