E-mail Provision

E-mail has revolutionised the way in which businesses communicate. Such is the reliance on e-mail that finding a fast and reliable provider could be critical to the success of your business. Annually, Scotnet delivers over 15 million e-mails utilising a variety of formats and technologies.

In general, there are 2 types of e-mail provided by Scotnet

POP3 Mail This solution is suitable for a small number of users based on one or more sites. Each named account has a user name and password and collects their mail by dialling into Scotnet's mail servers. The mail is then downloaded onto the cilent's machine and stored locally.

POP3 E-mail accounts are provided free of charge and will appear in the format yourname@scotnet.co.uk

SMTP Mail

Larger businesses wishing to use a mail server should use SMTP mail. This system will take all mail sent to a domain address i.e. everybody@yourcompany.co.uk and send it to your mail server. This service requires a static IP address. This service allows you to add/delete/modify e-mail accounts without having to contact yout ISP.

A standard SMTP mail feed is priced at £49.95 per annum

An SMTP mail feed address i.e anybody@yourcompany.scotnet.co.uk is provided free of charge with all SMTP mail packages.

Web Mail

As the name suggests, Web Mail is provided via a web interface such as Internet Explorer. E-mail can be viewed by clicking here and entering the appropriate username and password.

This service can be used in conjunction with POP3 Mail. This is the ideal solution for Scotnet members wishing to read their e-mail whilst out of the office. The service is provided free of charge.
