Crosman Challenger 2000 .177 Pellet tests

DRAFT : STILL INCOMPLETE

The results of a set of pellet tests undertaken over December 2004.

I purchased a pellet sample pack from www.pellpax.co.uk.  This pack consists of 10 of each of 34 different pellet types together with a pre-printed target for each pellet type.
I added some of my own pellets that were "lying about" - actually properly stored in sealed tins. Lubricant was used (a spot in a tin lid and each set of pellets went into the tin lid prior to firing).
Because I was on "iron" sights I could not use the supplied pellpax targets and substituted "black and white" with the correct circle diameter for use with the Crosman.
Gun: .177 Crosman Challenger 2000
Serial number: ??
Distance: 10m linear 550mm uphill
Weather:
Day 1: cool, slightly overcast, calm (targets 1-20)
Day 2: cool, slightly overcast, calm (targets 21-54)

Prone, iron sights, no straps, no front rest   I am shooting about 10 off with iron sights on rimfire at 25yds, so I believe the test from 10m is fair, and I should expect groups of 5-7 mm. I agree that a front rest (or even a bench rest) would be more accurate but what-the-hell I want some fun!

You could probably discount 1 "flyer" from a group as being my fault but the "new bulldog" shotgun spread pattern is unlikely to be caused by me. 2 targets on board, usually 5 pellets per set shot at each target, documented, targets changed, then cycle repeated.  In cases of "strange" results and at intervals a CONTROL set of 5 pellets of AirArms 4.52 was fired.
Some 10 shots fired when I was seeing something I did not expect.
The order of firing is as numbered below.

The results are presented photographically I have not had time to perform COG measurements :
Results for a .177 Daystate Huntsman and a .22 Daystate Huntsman are available (links to follow).
