Following our Range Officer course of 13/10/07 the following
points
were brought to our attention.
I dont know the importance of each of them and I simple reproduce them
here.
- Range Cert - It (or a copy) should be on display
- "No unruly behaviour" on safety rules - done
- We should have a notice on the main door about 'dont
remove
ammo
or brass from the range unless you hold a FAC for that type of ammo'
- Cone-of-fire suggests that new-starts should use the
middle
(also
easy ability for RCO to monitor this position)
- We should not allow cross shooting since the range will
not
have
been designed for that
- Extractor fans should run 15 before and 30 after each
session
- We need a little COSHH on lead handling - Alistair said
he
would
do that
- Official NO SMOKING signs to comply with the legislation
- Fire Risk Assessment - a legal requirement under 2005
act -
may
also need fire extinguishers to be
present/tested.
- Issues of the railway people transporting lead/residue
from
range into carpet, also issues of 'wee jimmy' in visiting the trains
picking up
brass (or a mislaid live round) and taking it to school
- We should have a range-inspection book showing that we
do
periodic (10 yearly?) inspections
- We should consider having a range-officiating book
showing
which
range officer was on when - while this would allocate blame - but more
usefully would show that RCOs were using their skills and would
assist on a renewal application
- We should have an 'isolation switch' sign on the power
switches
so that people know how to turn an electrical fire into a normal fire
- The emergency exit lights should be pictograph and
should
continue to operate in a power outage. Perhaps we should just
have signs and not lights?
