Formalisation of Training Regime

I would like to propose that we formalise the existing training regime for new-starts.

Purpose

The regime would be something that all club members can agree to support.  New-starts could e.g get sheets/cards to work through.

If we can agree what is on the cards, then any new start can ask any club member for assistance, and not get cross-purpose information.   It would make life easy for the club members and would ensure the new-starts get a favourable experience.

If a new-start appear throughout the year then we can reasonably expect any reasonable club member to reasonably assist the new-start.

I would expect the training regime to last for perhaps 6-8 sessions after which the new-start would be 'on their own', any other exercises we dream up should alos be 'carded'

For each of the 6-8 sessions I am proposing a 'task list' that each student can worth through before progressing.

I would like to make each 'card' a wee bit on theory as well as just a shooting regime.

I realsise some folk will go faster than others and that (e.g. for returning shooters) some shooters will skill some sections.

Suggestions

Stage
Formal task(s)/Shooting requirements
1
Safety talk, Introduction to the Rifle, Discussion on  equipment and on shooting form.
Measure arm and try to find a rifle.
1 or more pimpernel cards on first night.
2
Questions asked on safety, discussion on moving the body NOT the rifle.
2 or 3 x Pimernel card.
3
Discussion on shooting form - trying to check rifle is set up.
Get them to use a notebook to log rifle details, position, where things are sore/comfortable, scores etc
If grouping then 5 card otherwise pimpernel
4
More safety questions.  Introduce scope, discuss position of scope, ammo.  Reinforce dont hold move the rifle.
If grouping then 5 card otherwise pimpernel
5
Skip this if they are grouping OK, otherwise they need assistance to analyse what is wrong.
Give them a front rest - with no jacket -  on a 5 card and see if they can group.
If not it is a problem with sights/ammo/trigger/flinch (etc)
6 Get an experienced member to analyse the position, check strap length, discuss the positions of arm.
Move to 10 cards - expect typical scores of no worse than 70s
7
Discuss sights, MOA, clicks, how to read vernier scales.
8
Central eye position in rear sight
9
Swinging on four spotters on St Andrews Cross - big diagonals.
Shoot 2 into each of (Top Left, Bottom Right, Bottom Left, Top right) expect the same scores on each.
Watch for 'heaving' of rifle.
10
remove rear iris (not sight) shoot to a single target on board middle - expect 'in the black' - otherwise head position is wrong.
