- Prevent all possible causes of fire.
- Never obstruct an exit route.

Fire Safety Risk Assessment
The building has been operating for around 50 years with no known fires
or near-misses. Working practices have not changed, while not
being complacent on that historic basis the risk of a fire must be low.
The possible sources of fire remain as they always were - electrical,
from our fire, or deliberate.
In the case of an electical fire the electricity will be
isolated. This will turn an electical fire into a 'normal' fire.
The things that could burn remain constant - the soft furnishings, the
hard furnishings, the wood stores.
There does not appear to be any greater risk to any one group of
users. Visitors are pointed to the fire escapes and asked not to
start fires.
Sources of fuel and heat/sparks are kept apart.
There is no significant fuel than an arsonist could use.
We have a fire information sheet that explains:
- how to let people know if there is a fire
- where to meet in the event of a fire
- the attendance book - if it is not on fire - can be used to
ensure everyone got out
- The fire brigade can be called by anyone
- There are sufficient extinguishers/water to allow a small fire to
be extinguished
We have planned escape routes using the fire exits
All safety equipment is within inspection standards
The fire extinguishers are standard issue and are assumed to be easy to
operate without special training.
This is the record of what we have found.
This is the plan of what everyone will do if there is a fire.
We have discussed this plan with members.
We will run a fire drill once a year and record the results.
The commitee is responsible for ensuring that fire prevention measures
do not deteriorate.
